PRODUCT INFO
What types of sunscreens does SPOOGE offer?

SPOOGE offers four different mineral—based sunscreens that are formulated for every skin type—whether you’re looking for a tinted face sunscreen or something sheer for everyday wear. Our formulas deliver broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection with non-nano Zinc Oxide.

Is SPOOGE Leaping Bunny certified?

You bet! SPOOGE is proud to be Leaping Bunny certified, meaning no animal testing here—ever. We believe in kind products for both you and the planet.

WHY SHOULD I USE MINERAL SUNSCREEN?

Our mineral sunscreens—also known as physical sunscreens use non-nano Zinc Oxide to sit on top of the skin and reflect UV rays. They’re effective right away, tend to be gentler on sensitive skin, and are generally considered safer for marine life (which is why they meet Hawaii’s reef-safe regulations).

That said, the most important thing is wearing sunscreen—mineral or not. We just happen to prefer mineral-based formulas because they align with our skin-first + clean formulation standards.

Do SPOOGE products contain harmful chemicals?

We’re all about clean, transparent, and safe formulations—great for your skin and the environment. We formulate without harsh chemical sunscreen filters and known toxic ingredients. SPOOGE products are free from:

  • Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Synthetic Fragrance, Parabens, and Phthalates.
Do any SPOOGE sunscreens protect against visible light?

Yes, our tinted formulas contain iron oxides which help even skin tone and protect against visible light linked to hyperpigmentation and skin discoloration—especially for those with melanin-rich skin.

Where is SPOOGE Made?

SPOOGE calls Reno, Nevada home—All SPOOGE products are made in the USA with love and high standards.

SAFETY & SENSITIVE SKIN
Are SPOOGE sunscreens dermatologist-developed and tested?

Yes! All our formulas are developed by dermatologists and tested and approved for even the most sensitive skin.

Can I use Spooge sunscreen on my face?

Yes, all SPOOGE products are safe for use on the face and body. We have face-specific formulas that are lightweight, non-comedogenic, and work great under makeup for that flawless, natural finish.

Is Spooge safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Yes, our products are made with safe ingredients that are suitable for use while pregnant or nursing. But of course, always check with your healthcare provider before adding anything new to your skincare routine.

What is RIPT testing and is Spooge RIPT tested?

Yes! All SPOOGE products go through RIPT (Repeat Insult Patch Test). It’s a dermatological test that ensures no irritation or allergic reactions. We want to make sure our sunscreens are gentle for all skin types, and meet high safety standards.

APPLICATION & PERFORMANCE
How often should I reapply Spooge sunscreen?

Reapply every 2 hours, and especially:

  • After 80 minutes of swimming or sweating
  • Immediately after towel-drying
Does Spooge leave a white cast?

Our mineral formulas are developed to blend into most skin tones and dry down with a sheer finish. That said, every person’s skin is unique—factors like skin tone, texture, and moisture levels can affect how the product appears on application. Because mineral UV filters sit on the skin’s surface and reflect light, some visible residue may occur, especially on deeper or drier skin tones. Proper blending and allowing time for absorption can help improve the finish. We’re actively working on expanded formulations to better serve a wider range of skin tones as part of our commitment to inclusive sun protection.

Is Spooge water-resistant?

Yes! Our GHOSTED formula is water and sweat-resistant for up to 80 minutes.

SUN PROTECTION SCIENCE
What does SPF mean?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and measures how well a sunscreen protects your skin from UVB rays, which cause sunburn. A higher SPF means more UVB protection when applied correctly and in the right amount.

How much SPF do I need?

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends at least SPF 30. But remember, SPF is only half the battle—you’ve got to apply it correctly! That means:

  • Use enough product (think: a shot glass for your body and a nickel-sized amount for your face)
  • Reapply every 2 hours (or right after swimming, sweating, or towel-drying)

Any other tips for full protection?

Definitely! Sunscreen is just one part of staying sun-safe. Here are some extras:

  • Seek shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and UV-protective clothing
Sustainability & Ethics
Is Spooge eco-friendly?

SPOOGE is committed to reducing our environmental footprint. Our tubes are made from 30% recycled PCR plastic, and while we love our boxes as works of art, we encourage you to recycle them.

Are Spooge products phthalate-free?

Yes! SPOOGE formulas are 100% phthalate-free, and we maintain strict standards to ensure all ingredients are safe and transparent.

Hawaii Compliance & Reef Safety
Is Spooge reef-safe?

While there’s no official nationwide definition for "reef-safe" or "reef-friendly,” SPOOGE Sunscreens don’t contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, making them reef-friendly according to the State of Hawaii’s standards. All SPOOGE Sunscreens are mineral formulas with dermatologist-recommended Zinc Oxide for broad-spectrum sun protection.

Is Spooge sunscreen legal to use and bring to Hawaii?

Yes. SPOOGE is fully compliant with all Hawaiian sunscreen regulations. Our formulas are 100% mineral-based with non-nano zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide—and do not contain banned ingredients like oxybenzone or octinoxate.

What are the sunscreen laws in Hawaii?

Hawaii has put laws in place to protect its coral reefs by regulating certain sunscreen ingredients:

  • Statewide Ban (Act 104): As of January 1, 2021, sunscreens with oxybenzone and octinoxate are banned from sale or distribution without a prescription.

Maui County (Maui, Molokai, Lanai): Starting October 1, 2022, only mineral sunscreens are allowed. Non-mineral sunscreens are banned unless prescribed by a healthcare provider.

Hawaii County (Big Island): Since December 1, 2022, non-mineral sunscreens are prohibited from sale, distribution, and use.

Can I travel to HawaiI with Spooge?

Of course! SPOOGE sunscreens are reef-friendly, 100% mineral-based, and meet all legal requirements for use across all Hawaiian islands—including Maui and the Big Island.
